Heads turn whenever Stephen wears this hat.

Inspired by the German work ethic, Matt starts hauling a skid down the street.

Ladies and gentlemen, Brian Welsh in the gold and black top.

Freiburg. We played at a place called the Jazzhaus. Their big thing is that Miles Davis played there, and they had pictures of the occasion all over the place so that there's no way you could possibly forget it. Here's the description of the club from the tour book our promoters put together for us: "Nice venue in university city with a long tradition for 'alternative' culture and politics. They promote concerts with jazz, world, rock and indie. Ever been on a stage which Miles Davis had entered years before?" Well, just once before, in Barcelona.

But wow, what a cool place. Notice the curve of the ceiling in the bottom right picture. When we were done we hung out backstage and had a beer. When we came out later, the whole place had transformed into a disco-tech, and there were people dancing in about every square inch of the joint - up on the immense stage, tables, you name it.

Matt's Journal: The drive to Freiburg was fine. I dozed on Wally's shoulder with my little travel pillow. Stephen makes a rule that this is unquestionably OK - no permission needed. A good rule.

Chillin' out backstage before the show.

Hard to see, but this car is FULL of puppets. Soundman Steve checks it out.

Sound checking one more time before the show.
